Fresh Vietnamese pomelo hits Lotte Mart shelves in RoK
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s fresh local pomelo hit the shelves of supermarket chain Lotte Mart in the Republic of Korea (RoK) for the first time on April 10, affirming businesses’ efforts in further penetrating the Korean market.

At Lotte Mart supermarkets, the juicy fruit is priced at US$2.4 per kilogram – a figure that is rather competitive compared to the price of the similar Vietnamese product sold in China for about US$1.8 per kilogram.
The RoK currently stands as the fifth largest fruit export market of Vietnam, behind China, the United States, the EU, and Japan.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam produces more than 12 million tonnes of different fruits, of which pomelo has a yield of around 1.2 million tonnes, therefore the potential for expanding export markets to the RoK is huge.
In August 2024, pomelo was the third fresh fruit from the country which was permitted for export to the RoK, along with dragon fruit and mango, as the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) of the RoK officially announced regulations for importing fresh pomelo from Vietnam on its website.
One month later, Hoang Huy Agriculture Import Export One Member Company Limited exported its first batch of five tonnes of fresh pomelo to the Korean market. This year the company is aiming to reach an export volume of 500 tonnes of the fruit worth up to US$1.2 million to the RoK.
Fresh Vietnamese pomelo is famous for its sweetness, healthiness, and suitable taste for Korean consumers. Following the first batch distributed at Lotte Mart Jamsil branch, the Korean group plans to expand its distribution network if it receives positive feedback.
The Vietnam Trade Office in the RoK pledges to continue to support businesses in accessing market information, connecting with partners, completing export procedures, and diversifying products, thereby opening up new opportunities for the export of Vietnamese agricultural products abroad.
