Laos’ Phongsupthavy Group urged to expand energy cooperation with Vietnam

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has asked Phongsupthavy Group to broaden energy cooperation with Vietnam, praising the company’s role in exporting electricity and encouraging new projects in renewable energy, infrastructure, and ASEAN grid integration.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son hosted a reception in Hanoi on December 12 for Kounlaphanh Vongnathy, Vice Chairman of Lao Phongsupthavy Group.

Welcoming the visit, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son highlighted that it shows the spirit of cooperation and the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos, particularly in the energy sector- an area of close attention by the two nations’ top Party and State leaders

He acknowledged and hailed Phongsupthavy Group as one of Laos’ pioneering investors in electricity exports to Vietnam. The Deputy Prime MM also applauded the group’s commitment to continue increasing electricity exports, thus making practical contribution to carrying out energy cooperation agreements and commitments between the top leaders of both countries.

To ensure smooth project implementation, Son asked the group to maintain close coordination with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity, and relevant local authorities. The group should fully comply with Vietnamese laws while ensuring the safety of the power system and environmental protection, he stresse.

In addition, he also encouraged Phongsupthavy Group to explore expanded cooperation with Vietnam in potential areas such as carbon credits and energy infrastructure. The group is also encouraged to participate in ASEAN Power Grid projects and regional initiatives, including Mekong-Lancang cooperation.

For his part, Kounlaphanh Vongnathy affirmed Phongsupthavy Group’s commitment to implementing energy cooperation projects in compliance with the laws of both countries. He emphasized the group’s determination to realize plans to export around 6,000 MW of electricity to Vietnam in the coming years.

Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son expressed confidence that, with clear guidance from the top leaders both countries, a solid cooperative foundation, and mutual trust and understanding, collaboration between Phongsupthavy Group and Vietnam will succeed. This will further strengthen Vietnam-Laos energy cooperation and deliver practical benefits to the people of both nations.

Founded on January 1, 2001, Phongsupthavy Group initially operated in bridge and road construction, irrigation systems, and infrastructure. By 2011, it expanded into mining, agriculture, and clean energy, including hydropower, solar, and wind energy.
