Lai Chau secures over VND200 trillion in investment commitments
VOV.VN - The northern mountainous province of Lai Chau secured investment commitments worth more than VND200 trillion (approximately US$7.7 billion) at its 2026 Investment Promotion Conference held in Hanoi on June 30, marking a significant step in its strategy to attract high-quality investment.
The total amount is sourced from newly registered investment capital and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed with investors across key sectors.
At the conference, provincial authorities granted 19 investment policy approval decisions to 18 investors, with total registered capital exceeding VND27.7 trillion.
Lai Chau also signed 19 memoranda of understanding with domestic enterprises, representing proposed investments of more than VND172 trillion in renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, mineral processing, infrastructure, culture and eco-tourism.
The conference marked an important milestone in Lai Chau’s transition from simply leveraging its natural advantages to proactively building a more attractive investment ecosystem.
Located in Vietnam's northwestern border region, the province has significant potential for renewable energy, forest-based medicinal herb and eco-tourism development.
Under its provincial master plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, Lai Chau targets annual GRDP growth of 9–11%, pursuing a green, sustainable development model while ensuring balanced growth across economic sectors.
At the conference, provincial leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further improving the investment climate through administrative reforms, introducing a ‘green lane’ mechanism for priority projects, enhancing transparency in planning and investment portfolios, and providing comprehensive support to investors throughout project implementation.
“Lai Chau is committed to further improving the investment and business environment by making it more open, transparent and equitable. The province will consistently and fully implement investment incentives and support policies in a transparent manner in accordance with the law, prioritise resources for developing strategic infrastructure, and stand side by side with investors by listening to and promptly addressing their concerns throughout the investment process,” Le Minh Ngan, secretary of the Party Committee of Lai Chau.
“We are also committed to maintaining national defence and security, ensuring social order and safety, and providing a peaceful, stable, secure and business-friendly environment where investors can operate with confidence and pursue long-term development in Lai Chau,” he added.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra called on Lai Chau to continue improving the business environment, streamline administrative procedures, develop strategic infrastructure and strengthen the quality of its workforce to attract higher-quality investment.
The conference was seen not only as an investment promotion event but also as the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between Lai Chau and domestic as well as international businesses, with a focus on green, sustainable and long-term development.
With investment commitments exceeding VND200 trillion, the province expected to accelerate economic restructuring, upgrade infrastructure and gradually emerge as a new investment destination in Vietnam’s northern midland and mountainous region.
