Job opportunities rising in retail

Vietnam’s retail market saw a lot of changes and activities during the third quarter of this year, according to Navigos Search, with the emergence of international fashion brands opening up more employment opportunities for local candidates at all levels.

Mergers and acquisitions (M&As) remain ongoing, with a number of leading Vietnamese brands being acquired by major corporations from Japan and Thailand.

These M&A deals have opened up opportunities for Vietnamese staff to access international working styles and professional chain management.

The deals also result in attractive job opportunities for management-level candidates with experience in building and developing new markets, training and developing teams, and e-commerce.

In order to attract talented candidates, consumer goods companies are willing to offer bonuses to new employees.

Middle and senior managers are often hesitant to seek new employment opportunities in the remaining months of the lunar year, preferring to wait until after Tet in order to receive a 13th month salary and year-end bonus, as offered by many companies.

In order to attract talented and suitable candidates, therefore, some companies are willing to offer bonuses to new employees to compensate for any such losses.

In the third quarter, according to Navigos Search, some multinational companies in the consumer goods industry were struggling to recruit regional sales managers, especially in the northern mountainous region.

Experienced candidates are not particularly keen on securing such positions, while less experienced candidates don’t meet the requirements of employers. In addition, English has always been a weakness of middle-level sales managers in the region.

According to Navigos Search’s figures, in the third quarter of this year, the highest salaries were paid to senior-level management positions in the consumer goods industry, at nearly VND300 million (US$13,205) per month.

Middle and senior-level managers in industries such as real estate, banking, ICT, and manufacturing, meanwhile, were paid monthly salaries in the order of VND100 million (US$4,401) to VND220 million (US$9,683).
