Japan remains top Vietnamese economic partner
VOV.VN - Japan continues to be the nation’s leading economic partner, the number one ODA donor, the third major investor, and the fourth largest trading partner.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc comments as part of a statement while receiving Governor of Japan's Gunma Prefecture Yamamoto Ichita on August 4 in Hanoi.
President Phuc showed his gratitude at Governor Ichita being the first local Japanese Governor to visit Vietnam since the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby restarting local exchanges between the two countries. This is also part of efforts to look forward to the 50th anniversary of joint diplomatic ties in 2023 amid the Vietnam - Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership developing strongly and comprehensively with high political trust.
Furthermore, regular high-level delegation exchanges, economic co-operation, investment, trade, defence, and people-to-people exchanges have consistently been strengthened.
As part of the occasion, President Phuc also expressed his deepest condolences to leaders of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam to both the Government and people of Japan for the great loss and passing of late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
President Phuc applauded the efforts made by Governor Ichita in strengthening relations with Vietnam over recent times, particularly in organising Vietnamese festivals in the Japanese locality and helping the Vietnamese community there to overcome difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He therefore suggested that firms in Gunma pour greater investment into the country, especially in high-tech green agriculture, processing and manufacturing industries, the supporting industry, as well as digital technology and artificial intelligence.
The two sides should seek to expand human resources co-operation, he said, calling on the Japanese locality to create the best possible conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work, and study in the prefecture.
In response, Governor Ichita said he will do his utmost to contribute to further promoting Vietnam-Japan ties, especially economic co-operation between Gunma and Vietnamese localities.
According to Governor Ichita, business delegations from Gunma Prefecture will visit Vietnam to seek further investment opportunities in the Southeast Asian nation in the field of digital and information technology, as well as manufacturing technology.
The President is appreciative of Govenor Ichita’s visit to Da Nang and Hoi An, with the trip set to open up plenty of opportunities for further co-operation with central Vietnamese provinces.
