Japan increases coffee imports from Vietnamese market
VOV.VN - Japan imported a total of 101,000 tonnes of coffee from Vietnam in 2021, worth US$182.9 million, a rise of 0.2% in volume and 7.7% in value compared to the previous period.
Statistics indicated that the market share of Vietnamese coffee in Japan suffered a slight drop to 24.62% last year from 25.25% in 2020.
The first two months of 2022 saw the country ship 293,000 tonnes of coffee abroad, raking in US$674 million, and marking a year-on-year rise of 3.4% in volume and 35.6% in value.
It is worth noting that, the nation's export of robusta coffee to Germany, Belgium and the UK enjoyed remarkable growth rate.
According to industry experts, both Vietnam and Japan are members of several bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements (FTAs), including the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP), the and Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Their participation in the FTAs opens up plenty of opportunities and offers favourable conditions for both nations to bolster bilateral trade cooperation across multiple fields, especially when they have complementary trade structures.
