Investors show interest in coal import and transport from Laos to Vietnam

VOV.VN - The import and transport of coal from Laos to Vietnam via the La Lay International Border Gate in the central province of Quang Tri has recently attracted plenty of financiers, according to the Quang Tri Department of Planning and Investment.

At present, the province has received a range of investment proposals to implement infrastructure construction projects such as warehouses, ports, and coal conveyor belts from enterprises in order to transport coal from Laos to Vietnam through La Lay International Border Gate.

Earlier in June, the provincial administration approved investment for a project to construct a conveyor system and a transporting coal from Laos to the country.

The project, which boasts investment capital of over VND1,489 billion, has a design capacity of 30 million tonnes of coal per year and operates over 30 years.

Insiders say that there is a large amount of coal imported from Laos to Vietnam via La Lay International Border Gate, reaching up to 12,000 tonnes per day

Therefore, there exists huge potential to boost coal imports between Vietnam and Laos via this border gate, possibly hitting 500 million tonnes within the next 50 years.
