Int'l container shipping route opens in Quang Nam

VOV.VN - An international container shipping route traversing to the central province of Quang Nam was officially placed into operation on August 5.

The route, launched by the Chu Lai Truong Hai (Thaco) Automobile Company, connects the province’s Chu Lai-Truong Hai port and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

The first ship on this route, weighing 20,000 tonnes, anchored at the port  on the opening day, helping domestic and foreign businesses find it easier to transport goods directly from the RoK by sea.

The same day, the company started the expansion of the Chu Lai – Truong Hai port at a total cost of US$9 million, which is expected for completion in February next year.

After the expansion, it is capable of carrying vessels of up to 30,000 tonnes in 2018, with its dock having a total length of 500 metres.

Last year, the port handled 950,000 tonnes of goods and the figure is expected to reach 1,350,000 tonnes this year.

In a speech, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dinh Van Thu pledged to offer the best possible conditions for investors' operations  in the province, adding that the route and the expansion of the port are expected to lure investment to and spur economic development in the province as well as the central region.
