International project supports footwear firms

Groups from Vietnam and Europe have launched a project in Hanoi to help footwear businesses meet product safety requirements.

The Leather and Shoe Research Institute, the University of Northampton in Britain and the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO) came together to create the initiative, which will help small- and medium-sized enterprises satisfy technical safety requirements imposed on export products.

The four-phase project will establish a data system for the EU's technical requirements on footwear products, said LEFASO secretary Phan Thi Thanh Xuan. It will also collect consumer feedback and update businesses on export market developments, she said.
