Industrial production index in February up 17.2% year on year
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s index of industrial production (IIP) in February fell by 2.2% month on month but rose by 17.2% year on year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported on March 6.
The index grew by 7.2% over the past two months, with manufacturing and processing posting the highest growth rate at 9.3%.
Several key industries also recorded impressive growth rates compared to the same period last year. Electricity production and distribution rose by 2.3% while water supply expanded by 8%.
Conversely, oil, and gas extraction decreased by 12%, pharmaceutical and chemical production dropped by 10.4%, and coal mining declined by 3.6%.
The IIP over two months also showed notable variation across localities, with 58 out of 63 cities and provinces recording increases.
Phu Tho, Bac Kan, and Bac Giang provinces reported exceptional growth in manufacturing and processing, with the IIP increasing by 48.5%, 41.4%, and 26.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, Tra Vinh, Hoa Binh, and Quang Nam all enjoyed strong growth in electricity production and distribution with rates of 51.3%, 43.6%, and 13.8%, respectively.
