Ho Chi Minh City seeks stronger trade links with Canada

Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, made the statement during a reception held for Senator Victor Oh, chairman of the Canada-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, who is currently on a working trip to the southern metropolis.

At the meeting, Hoan highlighted the huge potential and opportunities that exist to boost trade and investment co-operation between the nation and Canada, as well as between Ho Chi Minh City and Canadian localities.

The host thanked Senator Oh and his colleagues for their support of Ho Chi Minh City’s delegation during its working trip to Canada in June, which was able to achieve plenty of positive outcomes.

He therefore called for greater support from the senator to promote trade ties and the exchange of business delegations between Ho Chi Minh City and Canadian localities, thereby strengthening mutual understanding. This will ultimately make it easier for the two sides to explore opportunities for deeper investment ties towards realising commitments in promoting economic collaboration between the two countries.

For his part, Senator Oh said Canadian companies view the Vietnamese market as a top investment destination in ASEAN and are therefore eager to expand investment and trade co-operation with Ho Chi Minh City.

He affirmed that as a co-chair of the Canada-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group, he will do his utmost to support the southern city in boosting economic ties and people-to-people exchanges with Canadian localities.

He expressed the significance of the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2023’s theme of green growth, especially amid climate change having a severe impact worldwide.

Many businesses within the Vietnamese business community in Vancouver and Toronto of Canada have experience and strengths in green and sustainable growth areas, he said, emphasizing that this presents a favourable opportunity for the city to promote connections and partnerships in the time ahead.
