HCM City’s March CPI down 0.29 pct

(VOV) - HCM City’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) dropped 0.29 percent in March, bringing the three-month price index to 1.15 percent. 

The decrease was most evident in categories such as goods and other services (-0.62 percent), foods and services (-0.6 percent), beverages and cigarettes (-0.35 percent), transportation (-0.34 percent), culture-entertainment-tourism services (-0.47 percent), and garments-hats-footwear (-0.08 percent).

Bucking the trend were slight increases in the price of home-electricity and water-fuel-building materials (+0.38 percent) and equipment and household appliances (+0.07 percent).

Looking at food alone, some specific items did see a rise in prices: beef (+1.01 percent), fish sauce (+2.46 percent), milk-butter-cheese (+0.86 percent), and tea-coffee (+0.21 percent).

However, the majority of products showed a decrease in price: pork (-2.98 percent), poultry (-0.71 percent), processed meat (-1.01 percent), cooking oil (-3.26 percent), fresh seafood (-1.31 percent), vegetables (-1.57 percent) and sugar (-1.38 percent).

Other categories such as medicine and healthcare services, telecommunications and education and training remained steady.

In March, gold prices fell by 2.94 percent, while the price of the US dollar rose by 1.2 percent.
