HCM City launches semiconductor alliance to seize a trillion-dollar opportunities
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City on August 21 officially announced the establishment of the Alliance for Research, Training and Semiconductor Manpower (ARTSeMi), which aims to pool resources and boost collaboration among universities, management agencies, and businesses in building a development strategy for the semiconductor industry.

With 15 founding members, including universities, research institutes and enterprises, ARTSeMi is expected to serve as a strong bridge that drives research, training and workforce development in semiconductors and microelectronics.
The alliance will also coordinate closely with management agencies to propose policies and strategic orientations as a contribution to the effective implementation of Politburo Resolution No. 57 on science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.
Le Truong Duy, Director of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City (C4IR), said the semiconductor industry is a strategic pillar for many countries, the “lifeblood” of the global economy and a core foundation for most high-tech sectors. From artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to cloud computing and defence technology, all fields depend on semiconductor design and manufacturing capacity, he noted.

According to Duy, Vietnam is at a “golden moment” to pivot and develop its semiconductor industry. “The global semiconductor market is forecast to reach US$1 trillion by 2030.
While this figure is enormous, the world also faces a shortage of at least one million engineers in this field. This is a global challenge but also an opportunity for Vietnam. Leading global tech corporations such as Samsung, Amkor, Nvidia and Qualcomm have already chosen Vietnam as a strategic destination. At the same time, domestic enterprises like Viettel and CT Group have started to join the sector’s supply chain,” he said.
