HCM City ensures sufficient food supply for Tet

VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has directed local businesses to ensure the supply of essential goods and necessities ahead during the upcoming the Lunar New Year or Tet.

According to the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the total value of goods that enterprises will produce and stockpile for the two festive months stands at VND19.881 trillion, equivalent to the amount of money prepared for the previous Lunar New Year.

Of the figure, the total value of goods for the price stabilisation programme is more than VND7.221 trillion.

A number of commodity groups have been prepared in large quantity, accounting for 29% and 54.5% of market demand.

According to the department, through a market survey and a check on goods and the supply capacity of enterprises, it is forecast that the prices of essential goods will remain stable during the festive period, with price volatility being unlikely to happen.

Furthermore, enterprises from across the city are poised to launch a range of promotional programmes with a  particular focus on soft drinks, confectionery, jams, and clothing, while major retailers such as Saigon Co.op, SATRA, AEON - Citimart, and Big C will also offer enticing discounts, from 5% to 49%, as a way of securing their market share and increasing their sales revenue.

The department has also worked alongside suppliers to organise 350 mobile price-stabilisation points of sales located in suburban districts, hospitals, and industrial parks with a view to helping low-income workers, the poor, and disadvantaged individuals, many of whom are unable to return home to celebrate Tet with their relatives.
