Hanoi businesses prepare for high goods demand during Tet

VOV.VN - Businesses throughout Hanoi are ramping up production in a bid to ensure a sufficient supply of goods ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) that falls early next year - the year's biggest shopping season.

Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, director of Co.opmart Ha Dong, said that the supermarket has signed contracts with production units and suppliers in order to double the amount of essential goods available to consumers.

Meanwhile, Hanoi Trade Corporation (Hapro) has stockpiled a large amount of processed food items and regional specialties to meet various demands of customers ahead of New Year and Lunar New Year holidays. In addition, the company plans to promote sales through e-commerce platforms.

To anticipate the shopping season, Big C supermarket chain has also stockpiled large amounts of goods for Tet. A Big C representative revealed the firm will increase the amount of goods in stock by between 5% and 7% this Tet compared to the previous year, with a primary focus on domestic commodities.

To ensure a sufficient supply of goods for Tet, Tran Thi Phuong Lan, acting director-general of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, said the department is cooperating with firms in other localities such as Ha Giang, Son La, and Hoa Binh in order to bring their goods to Hanoi for consumption.

The department has requested local suppliers to increase stocks of essential and much sought-after goods during the Tet holiday such as rice, beef, pork, poultry, processed food, fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as dried products including mushrooms and bamboo shoots.

If the COVID-19 outbreaks evolves in a complicated manner, 2,500 locations across districts can be used as warehouses and mobile sales points to serve local residents,” Lan added.
