Green transformation key to boosting exports, say experts at Hanoi workshop
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) hosted a workshop in Hanoi on May 20 to explore how accelerating green transformation can help Vietnamese enterprises enhance their competitiveness and expand exports in the face of global economic and environmental challenges.

In their presentations, experts emphasised that with increasing global demands for sustainability and climate action, green transformation is no longer optional but an inevitable path for businesses aiming for long-term growth and market access.
Tran Thi Thanh Tam, director of the VCCI’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Support Centre, noted that green practices not only meet international market trends but also offer tangible benefits for businesses.
Local businesses are required to enhance their reputation and brand, fulfil corporate social responsibility to improve the business environment, and optimise production to cut operational costs, she said.
She highlighted that green-oriented businesses are better positioned to access preferential capital, international funding, and sustainability support programmes. Moreover, digital transformation and green transformation go hand-in-hand, with technological adoption enabling enterprises to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve overall competitiveness.
Tam also pointed out that global consumers are increasingly valuing eco-friendly practices, transparent supply chains, and sustainable product origins, making environmental compliance a crucial factor for market entry.
With key export destinations like the European Union, the United States and Japan enforcing stricter environmental standards, such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), non-compliant businesses risk losing access to these markets.
Nguyen Van Thanh, head of the Policy Department under the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency, revealed that cross-border e-commerce reached US$3.5 billion in 2022 in Vietnam, and is projected to grow to US$5.5 billion by 2027. He urged firms to focus on green production and sustainable development to meet rising international standards.
Thanh also stressed the importance of investing in digital human resources, upgrading logistics infrastructure, building multi-channel e-commerce access, and promoting domestic consumption through online platforms.
Enterprises also need a clear legal framework with strict and transparent regulations to ensure fairness, while still promoting the development of e-commerce, especially cross-border e-commerce, he said.
The official suggested that the government should work to connect supporting services for e-commerce, boost domestic goods consumption through digital channels, streamline administrative procedures, and facilitate export processes to better support businesses in the coming time.
