Fruit and vegetable exports to ASEAN up 40% in 2024
VOV.VN - Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports last year soared by over 27% year on year to reach US$7.14 billion, with exports to ASEAN surging 40%, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
2024 also marked the year that recorded the highest fruit and vegetable export turnover, rising from US$1.07 billion in 2013 to US$7.14 billion in 2024, representing a 6.6-fold rise.
Last year witnessed the country the products to 31 major markets, with China remaining the largest consumer. The northern neighbour spent US$4.63 billion on imports, up 27.3% year on year.
It was followed by China (US$360 million, up 39.8%), the Republic of Korea (US$314 million, up 39.5%; Japan (US$203 million, up 15.3%); Australia (US$111 million, up 25.8%); and the Netherlands (US$111 million, down 23.9%).
Within ASEAN member states, Vietnam grossed US$417 million from exporting the products to the bloc, up 40.4% compared to the previous year.
Thailand was the largest consumer, spending US$278 million on imports, followed by Singapore (US$56.5 million), Singapore (US$41.7 million), Cambodia (US$16.8 million), Laos (US$13.7 million), and Indonesia (US$10.9 million).
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), key export products recorded high growth last year, including durians, up 46%; bananas, up 20.9%; longans, up 363%; and coconuts, up 71%.
China, the largest buyer, has licensed 11 types of Vietnamese fruit to enter its market, including durians, jackfruit, bananas, dragon fruit, longans, lychees, watermelons, rambutans, mangosteens, and passion fruit.
