Fruit and vegetable exports soar by 33.9% over nine-month period

VOV.VN - Vietnam grossed nearly US$5.7 billion from fruit and vegetable exports during the past nine months of the year, marking a rise of 33.9% against the same period from last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

This represents the highest export value that the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry has recorded so far, of which durian is the main product with a turnover exceeding US$2.5 billion.

Most notably, in September alone, fruit and vegetable exports surged by 37.6% to reach US$918 million on-year

Furthermore, export orders to Australia, China, and the Republic of Korea are still rising with nearly 50 tonnes of fresh coconuts being officially shipped to China recently.

Moreover, Blue Ocean Import-Export Trading Joint Stock Company, a member of Ocean Group also opened a frozen fruit processing factory in Lam Ha district of the Central Highland province of Lam Dong on October 19 as part of efforts to officially export the first shipment of passion fruit to the Australian market.

Vietnamese fruit and vegetables have recently secured their foothold in demanding markets such as the United States, China, and the Republic of Korea. In particular, Chinese consumers increasingly prefer Vietnamese durian, bananas, and mangoes.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, thanks to robust growth occurring in major markets such as China, the United States, and the Republic of Korea, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports are anticipated to reach a new record of over US$7 billion this year, far exceeding the set target.

Of the figure, fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market are forecast to fetch between US$4.5 billion to US$5 billion this year.

In particular, durian exports fetched US$2.5 billion and are expected to reach more than US$3 billion this year, while fresh coconut exports are likely to earn US$250 million.
