First 5G smart factory to take shape in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Viettel Networks of Vietnam’s military run telecom group Viettel and electronics manufacturer Pegatron of Taiwan (China), recently signed an MoU on jointly developing the 5GPrivate network in Vietnam.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress taking place in Barcelona, Spain.

Under the signed document, both sides will jointly test the 5G Private Network service for the entire production line of Pegatron factory in Hai Phong city covering a total area of 4,500m2. There will be 12 applications to be deployed, including augmented reality / virtual reality (AR/VR), code scanning, data processing, product testing, and Dynamics 365 for live streaming.

This will be the first smart factory in Vietnam to be automated using 5G mobile services thanks to its advantages of high speed, low latency, and support for multiple connections.

From the test results, Viettel Networks and Pegatron will complete the product suite for 5G Private Network services for smart factories, including network equipment and related applications. At the same time, the two sides will cooperate to jointly develop 5G services in terms of technology, terminal equipment, research and production toward popularizing 5G services in Vietnam.

Currently, Viettel is one of six network operators in the world that both provides telecommunications services and manufactures network infrastructure equipment. The telecom firm has also successfully tested the 5G technology for individual customers in Vietnam since 2020. The 5G Private Network service targeted at corporate customers helps Viettel complete its service ecosystem, opening a new era for the use of 5G services in the near future.

Petragon is Taiwan’s second largest contract electronics manufacturer that employs 150,000 people with its revenue last year reaching US$44.3 billion. in Vietnam, Pegatron has an operating factory in the Vietnam – Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in the northern port city of Hai Phong. It is building the second factory in Dinh Vu Economic Zone in Hai Phong with an investment of up to US$1 billion.
