Female Vietnamese entrepreneur named in billionaires list by Forbes
VOV.VN - Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of VietJet Air, is the only female Vietnamese entrepreneur to be named among the latest list of the world’s billionaires released by Forbes magazine.
According to Forbes, as of July 9, Thao is worth an estimated US$2.4 billion, therefore ranking 1111st in the list overall.
The 49-year-old CEO has plenty of experience in doing business in both the nation and abroad in a variety of fields, including finance, banking, aviation, real estate, and retail.
She initially launched VietJet Air back in 2011, with the local airline now leading the domestic market with a 45% share. It operates 385 flights daily within the nation and has flight routes which go to Japan, Hong Kong (China), the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Singapore, China, Thailand, Myanmar, and Malaysia.
The carrier launched its IPO on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange in February, 2017, thereby becoming the first Vietnamese airline to be publicly listed.
Topping the Forbes list is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world's first centibillionaire, with a net worth of US$177 billion. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is in second place with a net worth of US$151 billion.
