Employment market in HCM City bounces back

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City showed signs that the southern metropolis’ employment market is in the midst of recovering during the first quarter of this year, with more than 44,000 jobs on offer, while approximately 19,500 people were seeking jobs throughout the reviewed period.

According to the HCM City Human Resources Forecast and Labour Market Information (Falmi) Centre, demand for human resources across all sectors witnessed a year-on-year rise of 13.14%.

The highest demand for labour was recorded in services with 70.38% of total vacant jobs, followed by industry with 29.51%, and agriculture at 0.11%. Most notably, sectors such as processing and manufacturing, retail and wholesale, motor vehicle maintenance and repair, construction, education and training, along with information and communications, were the industries most keen on recruitment activities.

The centre stated that demand for trained workers made up 85.72%, including 22.19% of university graduates or holders of higher education degrees, the majority of which are in finance-banking, IT, architecture, electricity, marketing, management, and health care.

Furthermore, the need for untrained labourers constituted 14.28% of total demand, with this largely coming in chemicals, garments-textiles, business-trade, printing, tourism, along with lodging and catering services.

Falmi stated that despite the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many socio-economic indicators have recorded positive growth on a yearly basis. Therefore, many local firms have mapped out recruitment plans aimed at optimising their new business strategies moving forward.
