EEC committee approves five development projects

The executive committee in charge of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project this week approved five public-private joint undertakings during a meeting to discuss infrastructure plans.

The joint projects include the development of U-Tapao International Airport and the Aviation City of the East, the construction of high-speed railways linking Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport and U Tapao, the third phase of the extension of Laem Chabang Port and Maptaphut Port and the construction of U-Tapao International Airport’s maintenance facility.

The committee has agreed to assign Thai Airways to stipulate all aspects of the construction plan for U-Tapao International Airport’s maintenance facility. The contract signing ceremonies for all five projects are expected to take place by September 2018. The investment budget is estimated to exceed 400 billion baht.

The committee has also okayed manpower development plans in the areas of education, research and technology to support new industries. The plans will be sectioned into short-term, medium-term and long-term phases. The short-term one will entail skills enhancement courses for graduates, which will begin in October.
