Dutch investors explore cooperation opportunities in Can Tho

VOV.VN - The administration of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho held a working session with enterprises from the Netherlands and Vietnamese enterprises involved in import-export activities to discuss cooperation opportunities in agricultural import – export and logistics.

Can Tho currently has more than 114,000ha of land for agricultural production, including rice and fruit growing, and aquatic farming.

The city has about 40 rice processing enterprises, 45 seafood processing enterprises for export and about 478 production lines processing agricultural and aquatic products for domestic consumption. Its major export items are rice, aquatic products, fruits, and other processed agricultural products.

On average, the Mekong Delta region exports over 20 tonnes of agricultural products each year. However, the logistics infrastructure of Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta region in general is still limited due to the sedimentation at the seaport system.

Can Tho has an international airport which mainly carries passengers. Its undeveloped logistics services have barred the import and export of agricultural products of the city as well as the Mekong Delta region.

Can Tho has been greenlighted to establish a center to connect production, processing and consumption of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta. This project has been submitted to the Government and ministries for consideration.

At the working session, Tran Viet Truong, head of the municipal administration, expressed his hope that Dutch investors would eye the project, as well as other projects on seaport logistics and aviation infrastructure in service of agriculture.

Can Tho also wishes to promote trade cooperation by exporting its agricultural products to the Dutch market in particular and Europe in general, said Truong.

Representatives of Dutch investors and Vietnamese import-export enterprises said they would study the provided documents to better understand business opportunities in Can Tho.
