Durian export surge lifts fruit and vegetable sector toward record US$8 billion
VOV.VN - Durian harvests in the Central Highlands have driven a sharp rebound in fruit-and-vegetable exports in recent months, putting the sector on track to reach a record US$8 billion for 2025, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT).

Preliminary figures show exports reached US$919 million in October, up 77% from the same month in 2024, taking the 10-month total past US$7 billion, a 14.4% year-on-year increase. VINAFRUIT General Secretary Dang Phuc Nguyen said the late-year recovery in durian shipments was the main factor behind the jump.
Durian exports struggled in the first five months of the year amid issues linked to Vang O contamination and cadmium, weighing on the sector’s overall performance.
From June, shipments recovered, and during the peak harvest months of August–October, exports surged, with durian shipments reaching about US$600 million in August and roughly US$1 billion in September.
VINAFRUIT conducted a market survey in early October in China and held talks with managers at the Xinfadi wholesale market in Beijing, a major distribution hub. Market feedback praised Vietnamese durian and indicated room for further growth, Nguyen said, but he warned that maintaining and expanding access to China will require strict adherence to quality standards.
