Doosan Vina to make first nuclear power equipment in Vietnam

The Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam Co. Ltd (Doosan Vina) said on August 5 that it recently signed a contract to produce nuclear power equipment for a nuclear power plant in the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Accordingly, Doosan Vina will produce four storage tanks for reactors No.5 and No. 6, each has a capacity of 1,400 MW, at Shin Kori nuclear power plant.

Doosan Vina General Director Yeon In Jung said this will be the first nuclear power equipment to be made in Vietnam, and many Vietnamese engineers will take part in the production.

He said to be permitted to produce such equipment, the company had to satisfy strict requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), which specialises in examining and certificating companies who want to produce nuclear power equipment.

Doosan Vina received six ASME certificates in 2014, becoming the first enterprise in Southeast Asia to be qualified to make the equipment, he added.

Reactors No. 1 and No. 2 of Shin Kori nuclear power plant went operational in 2011 and 2012. The third reactor was connected to the power grid in January 2016, and the fourth is set to start working in early 2017.

Doosan is one of the four contractors producing the plant’s reactors No. 5 and No. 6.

Located at Dung Quat Economic Zone in the central province of Quang Ngai, Doosan Vina is one of the largest overseas manufacturing factories established through joint investment from the RoK-based Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and Doosan Engineering and Construction.
