Denmark, Hai Phong ink MoU on offshore wind energy cooperation

VOV.VN - Representatives of the administrations of Hai Phong city (Vietnam) and Esbjerg city (Denmark) on November 2 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of offshore wind energy.

Under the MoU, the Danish side will share experience in policymaking for offshore wind energy, provide know-hows on the efficiency of operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms, and increase cooperation between its institutions and Hai Phong in the field.

The signing of the document was held as part of a trade and investment promotion conference between Denmark and Hai Phong taking place on the same day. Crown Prince Frederik who is in Vietnam for a three-day visit attended the gathering that brought together representatives of 22 large Danish businesses specializing in offshore wind power and Vietnamese enterprises.

Addressing the conference, Nguyen Van Tung, head of the municipal administration, affirmed that Hai Phong, with its aim to become a modern and smart city, is eager to find more sustainable energy solutions to contribute to the overall development of the city.

The northern port city of Hai Phong has great potential and advantages for development in various fields, including offshore wind energy. The city has a coastline of over 125 km long, along with the synchronous development of transport systems, seaport infrastructure, supporting industries and services.

With the increasing demand for electricity today, it is necessary to seek diverse sources of renewable energy, new energy, and clean energy, and this is a common trend of countries around the world, and at the same time, is Vietnam’s goal to fulfill its commitments delivered at the 26th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP 26), he stressed.

Tung earlier held a separate meeting with Crown Prince Frederik who affirmed that Denmark has always valued Vietnam as both a bilateral partner and an increasingly important player in global efforts to respond to climate change.
