Danang seeks to raise competitiveness index

Only 2.8 per cent of land procedures in the central city are carried out through the internet, heard a workshop hosted by the Danang municipal People's Committee on May 17.

The city’s competitiveness index has been continuously declining in recent years, from the second place in 2017 to the fifth in 2018.

Preliminary analysis shows that most of the competitiveness sub-indexes witnessed falls. Most notably, the equal competition indicator suffered a serious drop from 37th to 55th place while the ranking of business support services plunged from 9th to 41th.

In addition, transparency and access to information fell from 20th to 25th, whilst the ranking of city leaders' dynamism and pioneering slid from 6th to 20th position.

These negative signs did and will have adverse impacts on the local investment and business climate unless the city rallies behind solutions in a timely manner, workshop attendees warned.

2019 marked the 10th year that Danang maintained its place as top of the nationwide rankings in an index featuring its willingness to develop and apply information and communication technology, and the Vietnam Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI).

Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People's Committee, said that local leaders are eager to receive comments and proposals from businesses and experts, particularly those on how to improve the city’s competitiveness index and the overall investment climate.

City leaders would mull over the comments and proposals and then set forth feasible mechanisms and policies aimed at better improve the local business climate and meet pragmatic requirements relating to international integration.
