Dak Lak promotes Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand overseas
(VOV) - The Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association has coordinated with relevant agencies to register for trademark protection in 17 countries and territories around the globe.
The association’s President Duong Thanh Tuong made the announcement at its congress in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak province, on September 26.
The association has registered for collective brand name and a brand name certification within the Madrid System in France, the US, Switzerland, China, Germany, Spain, the UK, Japan, Italy, Singapore, the Republic of Korea and Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxemburg).
To date 17 countries have agreed to protect the “Buon Ma Thuot Coffee” brand name, including Germany, Spain, and Benelux.The association also succeeded in asking Chinese businesses to stop using the brand “Buon Ma Thuot Coffee” registered in China.
From 2014 to 2018, the association aims to develop its network in Vietnam, promoting its role as a bridge linking members with relevant public and private organisations.
It will also propose development and trading policies for coffee with geographical indication (GI) and register for trademark protection in other countries in and outside Europe.
Dak Lak currently leads the country in cultivating and producing coffee. It yields around 412,000 tonnes of coffee beans annually and exports products to 80 countries and territories around the globe.
