Da Nang promotes tourism potential in India

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese central city of Da Nang and budget airline Vietjet Air recently hosted a programme in New Delhi to introduce Da Nang’s tourism products and direct flights between Vietnam and India.

The organisers took the occasion to launch support programmes for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourists, and introduce Da Nang’s wedding tourism.

In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau noted that Indian people have high demand for outbound tours, but the COVID-19 pandemic that has broken out for the past two years has badly affected their travel plans.

According to the diplomat, the number of visas issued by the Embassy has witnessed a 24-fold increase, from just 250 per day in the pre-pandemic period to 6,000 per day at present, with more requests made to support the organisation of weddings and conferences in Vietnam.

Nguyen Thi Hoai An, director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, emphasised that the function provided an ideal venue for Da Nang to showcase new tourism products and services to the Indian market.

The programme marks a new period of future development co-operation between India’s New Delhi and Vietnam’s Da Nang city, said An.

In his presentation, Nguyen Duc Quynh, vice chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, pointed out that India is a key tourism market for Vietnam moving into the post-COVID period.

India's open-door policy and their people’s increasing demand for outbound tours will help the Vietnamese market offset the downturn in the number of visitors from the traditional Northeast Asian market, which has not yet fully opened after the pandemic, said Quynh.

As part of the event, a number of co-operation agreements were signed to help elevate Da Nang as a tourist destination in the Indian market and develop the MICE segment.

Vietjet Air also introduced its Indian partners to a direct flight network from major Indian cities to Vietnam, including Da Nang. Accordingly, the first two direct flights from Mumbai and New Delhi to Da Nang are expected to be launched on October 17 - 18.

Moreover, the airline will also operate three new routes to Da Nang from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad on November 28, November 29, and December 1, respectively.
