Costco retail stores first sell Vietnamese lychees in United States

VOV.VN - For the first time ever, Vietnamese lychees have officially hit the shelves of Costco, the largest retail chain in the United States, with 635 stores across the United States and Canada.

Dragonberry Produce, one of the leading importers of premium produce in the US, has launched its 2025 campaign to distribute Vietnamese lychees grown in Bac Ninh province through major supermarket chains such as Safeway and now Costco for the first time.

This marks the third consecutive year that Dragonberry has brought Vietnamese lychees to the US market, reflecting the consistent growth and strong positioning of this specialty fruit internationally, reported the Vietnam Trade Office in San Francisco.

Marketed under the brand name Golden Lychees, the Vietnamese lychee is cultivated using Global G.A.P. standards, ensuring not only its vibrant pink-red colour, delicate sweetness, and crisp texture, but also compliance with the strict US phytosanitary requirements. The fruit undergoes irradiation treatment in Vietnam before being shipped by sea to the US, ensuring freshness and quality upon arrival.

According to Dragonberry representatives, the presence of Vietnamese lychees in leading retail systems such as Safeway and Costco is not only a commercial success but also a testament to the growing potential of high-quality Vietnamese agricultural exports. US consumers are increasingly enjoying the unique flavour profile of Vietnamese lychees, and Dragonberry is committed to maintaining product quality and building a sustainable brand.

The partnership between Dragonberry and lychee-growing regions in Vietnam goes beyond simple trade transactions. It represents a comprehensive value chain, from cultivation techniques and post-harvest handling to cold storage and market communication.

Dragonberry is currently working directly with cooperatives and Vietnamese enterprises to standardise production processes and expand into other tropical fruits such as longan, dragon fruit, and passion fruit, laying the groundwork for increasing lychee export volumes and long-term sustainability.

The appearance of Vietnamese lychees in major US retail chains not only elevates the export value of the fruit but also reinforces Vietnam’s agricultural presence on the global food map, demonstrating effective collaboration between producers, distributors, and trade authorities.

The Vietnam Trade Office in San Francisco said it would continue to support and accompany Vietnamese enterprises in expanding their product offerings and market reach, with the goal of bringing more high-quality Vietnamese agricultural products to the US market in the near future.
