Cooperatives Promotion Dept details fruit management plan for crop output next month

Director-General of the CPD, Phichet Wiriyapaha, said his department has allocated 230 million baht from the Cooperative Development Fund for the purpose of purchasing and distributing fruit to consumers across the country.

The CPD will work with trade stores, Thailand Post offices, cooperative distribution centers and cooperative networks across the country to release over 11,000 metric tons of longan, rambutan, mangosteen and langsat into the market.

Makro, Tesco Lotus, Tops Supermarket and The Mall will take in as much as 4,500 metric tons, while the rest will be allocated to cooperative distribution centers and post offices. Longan prices are set at 250 baht per 5 kilograms and 160 baht per 3 kilograms, while rambutans will sell for 225 baht per 3 kilograms.

The Pratu Pa Agricultural Cooperative in Lamphun province will represent cooperatives in the northern region in collecting longan for distribution via Thailand Post. Those interested can purchase fruit at post offices nationwide or order online via www.thailandpostmart.com.
