Consumer price index edges up 0.34% in February
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February 2025 increased by 0.34% month on month and by 2.91% year on year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported on March 6.
The CPI growth recorded in February was primarily driven by the rise in prices of pork due to a supply shortage, as well as high prices in food and catering services, rental houses, and transportation services according to consumer demand
A total of nine groups of goods and services witnessed price hikes, of which transportation recorded the largest increase of 0.63%.
The housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials category ranked second, up 0.55%. This was followed by the food and catering services up 0.43%; medicine and medical services up 0.31%; other goods and services up 0.18%; as well as culture, entertainment, and tourism group up 0.17%.
In contrast, two categories of goods and services witnessed a downturn in price, namely post and telecommunications and clothing, hats, and footwear.
According to the GSO, core inflation in February inched up 0.3% compared to the previous month and 2.87% compared to the same period from last year.
Meanwhile, core inflation of the first two months this year increased by 2.97% year on year, lower than the average CPI of 3.27%, mainly due to the rising prices of food, foodstuffs, electricity, and medical services.
