Commerce Min increases sales channels for tropical fruits

The Ministry of Commerce has agreed to terms with giant retailers, on the distribution of tropical fruit as the new harvest season has arrived. 

Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong, chaired the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Department of Internal Trade and major retailers consisting of Tops Supermarket, Big C, Tesco Lotus, Makro, and Thai Market as well as exporters. 

The retailers and the exporters will help distribute Thai fruit from April. The minister expects 330,000 tons or 20 billion baht worth of fruit to be distributed and sold. 

Apart from its cooperation with the retailers and exporters, the ministry has prepared other measures such as organizing fruit fairs and events, promoting Thai fruit among Thai and foreign consumers, and selling fruit through online channels. 

Thailand is home to a number of mouth-watering fruit such as pineapple, watermelon, mango, mangosteen, jack fruit, and durian.
