Coca-Cola Vietnam yet to change hands, says the firm's representative

VOV.VN - A representative of Coca-Cola Vietnam confirmed the firm has yet to change its ownership following news that Swire Pacific plans to acquire the packaging and distribution operations of Coca-Cola in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Foreign news outlets reported the Hong Kong-based conglomerate Swire Pacific Ltd of the UK would purchase the packaging and distribution operations of Coca-Cola in Vietnam and Cambodia, marking its expansion into the Southeast Asian beverages market.

Swire Pacific will pay US$1.015 billion in cash for Coca-Cola Indochina, the firm which packages and distributes the beverage throughout the two Southeast Asian countries.

A representative of Coca-Cola Vietnam later told Nguoi Lao Dong (Labourer) newspaper that the information is not accurate.

Vietnam has a stable and developed beverage market, and therefore, there is no reason why Coca-Cola Vietnam must change its ownership, said the representative.

The partner that plans to purchase the packaging and distributing operations is still a member and has a stake in Coca-Cola global, said the representative, adding this is essentially an internal transfer within the group to facilitate the development of the target market that both partners aim at.
