Werner Vogels (R), vice president and chief technology officer at Amazon.com, and Nick Walton, managing director for the ASEAN region at AWS, speak with the press at Transformation Day 2018, held on September 18 in HCM City. |
Addressing the event, which took place on September 18 in HCM City, Werner Vogels, vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) at Amazon.com, said that the cloud will enhance the capacity of local firms. In addition, Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, which provides on-demand cloud computing platforms for individuals and organizations around the world, has aided multiple domestic SMEs.
Werner Vogels noted that AWS regularly supports SMEs in the country, particularly newly founded firms. Besides this, AWS has introduced a specialized program, called “AWS Activate,” to boost the startup community through three packages: Builder, Portfolio and Portfolio Plus.
Tiki, one of the local leading e-commerce operators, is applying the cloud in running its business, according to the Amazon CTO. By leveraging the cloud, Tiki reportedly can enhance its competitiveness among overseas rivals in the ecommerce space.
Nick Walton, managing director for the ASEAN region at AWS, said that AWS technology allows subscribers, including large-scale enterprises, to improve their flexibility and agility.
He added that the large-scale firms needed to innovate as startups do to gain a firm foothold in the digital age.
Local budget carrier Vietjet, for instance, currently deploys the cloud provided by AWS to renovate its customer interaction methods and offer services that satisfy the customers’ needs.
Meanwhile, VTV Go, an official streaming television service under Vietnam Television, is utilizing AWS’s over-the-top services to develop media products more rapidly, access a rising number of clients and conveniently introduce its products to overseas markets.
The AWS regional head stressed that the AWS Activate program being rolled out in Vietnam and other ASEAN member countries was expected to help startups enhance their operations and expand business scales at home and abroad. AWS has also established partnerships with startup incubators, accelerators and investors to support startups.
