Chinese e-commerce giant launches route to Vietnam for overseas expansion
VOV.VN - Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com said that it has completed a maiden international cargo flight between mainland China and Vietnam as the company seeks to expand its overseas logistics operations.
In an article recently published by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) of Hong Kong (China), JD Airlines, which operates as the air cargo unit of JD.com’s logistics arm, completed its first round-trip flight between Shenzhen and Ho Chi Minh City, opening the international cargo flight route for the JD Logistics unit, the company said in a statement released on September 19.
The route will run three times a week and will ferry cross-border e-commerce parcels and agricultural produce between Vietnam and China, the article wrote.
JD Airlines was first established by JD Logistics in 2019, with flight operations starting last October.
The airline currently operates five domestic routes, connecting cities such as Shenzhen; Beijing; Hangzhou, the capital of eastern Zhejiang province; as well as Wuxi and Nantong from eastern Jiangsu province.
It is exploring the possibility of adding more international routes to its network that covers regions such as South Asia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, as well as Southeast Asia.
JD.com is one of the largest e-commerce business in China that boasts more than 580 million active users using their services for their online shopping. At present, it is ramping up its logistics buildout in the Southeast Asia region.
