China increases imports of processed fruits and vegetables from Vietnam
VOV.VN - The Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade quoted statistics compiled by China Customs as saying that the import value of processed fruit and vegetable products (HS code 20) in April reached US$121 million, a year-on-year rise of 11.2%.
The opening four months of the year saw the Chinese import value of processed fruit and vegetables reach US$434.7 million, a decline of 2% over the same period from 2021.
During the initial four months of the year, the Chinese market imported processed fruits and vegetables, primarily from the United States, Brazil, Vietnam and Thailand. The import value from these four markets duly accounted for 52% of the total Chinese import value of processed fruits and vegetables.
Most notably, China sharply reduced imports from the US, its largest supplier, and strongly increased imports from the other three markets.
The highest growth rate in terms of imports of processed fruits and vegetables came from Brazil, reaching US$58.4 million, up 37.2% over the same period from 2021, followed by Thailand with US$43.4 million, up 18.2%, and Vietnam with US$55.5 million, up 12.8%.
HS Code 2008 was the most imported processed fruit and vegetable product category to China during the reviewed period, reaching US$184 million, down 24% on-year and accounting for 42.3% of the total import value of processed vegetables. Elsewhere, the US and Vietnam make up the two largest suppliers of this item to China.
The HS code category 2009 made up 34.2% of the total import value of China's processed fruits and vegetables during the reviewed period, standing at US$148.5 million, an increase of 35% over the same period from last year.
China sharply increased its import of HS code 2009 from markets such as Brazil to hit US$45.6 million, up 63.6%, Thailand at US$19.3 million, up 128.1%, Spain at US$16.4 million, up 48.3%, and Vietnam at US$16.2 million, up 115.3% on-year.
