Cashless payment solutions for agro-fishery SMEs under discussion

VOV.VN - The Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency (IDEA)’s Centre of Information and Digital Technology (CID) are in discussion with VISA about implementing cashless payment solutions for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with talks held recently via a video conference.

Experts from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore participated in discussions in order to outline the direction for the development of non-cash payment platforms for Vietnamese SMEs, particularly enterprises, cooperatives, and business households operating in agriculture and fisheries.

Specialists from VISA used the talks to introduce a number of digital payment solutions and digital technologies aimed at facilitating the digital transformation of local firms, whilst discussing how they plan to support SMEs in agriculture and fisheries.

Upon addressing the meeting, Bui Huy Hoang, deputy director of the CID, said there has been changes in terms of the perception of people and businesses regarding many aspects of digital transformation as a result of COVID-19.

Non-cash payments are evolving in parallel with online marketplaces, Hoang said, adding that he anticipates VISA will be able to provide suitable solutions. This will be provided for local agribusinesses and cooperatives in a programme called “Gian hang Viet truc tuyen quoc gia”, known as “national online shop for Vietnamese products” in English.

Moving forward, cashless solutions are also expected to enhance cross-border trade as the IDEA is in the process of co-operating with logistics service provider Viettel Post to export agricultural products via e-commerce platforms. The two sides therefore plan to devise solutions for the use of non-cash payment apps and develop further capacity in e-commerce skills for local businesses and cooperatives in the near future.
