Canada explores investment cooperation opportunities in Lai Chau

VOV.VN - Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Perry Steil paid a working visit to Lai Chau province on August 8 to sound out investment cooperation opportunities with the northern mountainous locality.

At a reception for the diplomat, Le Van Luong, head of the provincial government, expressed his elation at the fruitful cooperation between Vietnam and Canada, as well as between Lai Chau and Canadian partners in recent times.

He thanked the Canadian government, through CARE International, for supporting a project to improve the livelihood of ethnic minority women in three communes of Lai Chau’s Tam Duong district.

The project has contributed to poverty reduction and socio-economic development for ethnic minorities in Lai Chau province, he noted.

He introduced the province’s development potential and expected that the ambassador would support business connections between local and Canadian firms, with priority to be given to fields such as economics, poverty reduction and climate change response.

Ambassador Steil for his part hailed the initial outcomes of the CARE International project which he said should be replicated to other poor communes and districts of Lai Chau, as well as other localities in Vietnam.

He highly valued Lai Chau’s development strengths that are of Canadian businesses’ concerns, and said he is happy that many natural products of Vietnam such as tea, cinnamon and other herbs that are also available in Lai Chau have been exported to Canada.

After the reception, Ambassador Steil made a fact-finding trip to some economic establishments in Lai Chau province.
