Can Tho officials desire to learn from Japanese agriculture
VOV.VN - Japanese agriculture is amongst the best in the globe, producing efficiently while prioritizing the environment and food safety, said Vo Thanh Thong, chair of Can Tho People’s Committee on August 25.
Speaking with a contingent of Japanese businessmen, Mr Thong noted that globalization and international competition means that a large portion of the region’s population is moving to the larger cities.
It also has resulted in farmers in the region needing to produce more with fewer people.
For that reason, Mr Thong said farmers and others in the food industry can benefit from Japanese experts in the field and would like to cooperate in a number of education and training programs.
Japan Ambassador Umeda Kunio in turn said he was happy that Can Tho officials recognized Japanese expertise in agriculture.
It shows that the model we have in Japan is recognized worldwide, he noted. We are known for our cooperatives and our advisory system, and often get visits from farmers around the globe, as other countries want to draw on our experience.
We look forward to cooperating with Can Tho officials and farmers in the region, Mr Kunio added, to advise them on methods to modernize agriculture to improve productivity and boost food safety, sales and earnings.
