Businesses seek to boost handicraft exports via Amazon

VOV.VN - The National Innovation Center (NIC) and the Amazon Global Selling Vietnam have co-hosted a webinar aimed at promoting the export of handicraft products via the Amazon e-commerce platform.

Upon addressing the event, Vu Quoc Huy, director of the NIC, emphasised that e-commerce plays an important role in promoting the economic growth of developing countries, noting that this represents an effective channel in which to help businesses maintain their operations amid the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also emphasised the necessity of improving the technology of producing handicrafts in the nation in order to further boost exports of items in the future, apart from the advantages of traditional craft villages and skilled local artisans.

Tran Xuan Thuy, director of Amazon Global Selling for in Vietnam, said handicrafts can be considered as potential Vietnamese export products, adding that local firms should pay closer attention to boosting exports via cross-border e-commerce platforms, particularly as there is an increasing consumer trend of online shopping.

Most notably, Amazon Global Selling Vietnam has recently co-ordinated with Vietnamese authorities in order to deploy activities aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to introduce their goods through the e-commerce platform.

There remains plenty of room for export activities through e-commerce platforms, added Tran Quy Hien, co-founder of Ecomstone Vietnam, stating that domestic businesses should improve their product quality and design, as well as using environmentally-friendly materials when putting their products on sale through the global online marketplace.

Hien also advised local businesses to create new products aimed at meeting the shopping needs of consumers, enhance the shopping experience of customers, develop brands, and abide by policies set by Amazon.
