Brazil seeks to boost agricultural trade with Vietnam
VOV.VN - As part of an effort to explore ways of deepening its bilateral agricultural trade with Vietnam, Brazil held an international agriculture forum on September 16 in Hanoi that was attended by representatives from 35 local agri-businesses.
Speaking at the one-day forum, Blairo Maggi, Brazil's Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply said that despite the good relations between the two nations, the volume of agriculture trade has not been commensurate with the available potential.
The forum is an opportunity for Vietnamese agri-businesses to learn more about Brazil and the potential it offers in terms of trade and investment in agriculture, explained Minister Maggi.
Both countries have been doing trade in too limited a number of items and he stressed that both should focus on trading in more items to improve two-way trade.
Brazil is rated as the seventh wealthiest economy globally, he explained, with agriculture accounting for 46% of the nation’s exports. In Brazil, 87% of farms are small and run by families, and they are global leaders in adding green technologies to their farms.
So there is ample room for fruitful negotiations for expanded agricultural trade between the two nations, he noted.
