Aquatic exports hit US$5.91 billion in nine months

Aquatic exports in September 2017 are estimated to reach US$696 million, pushing total exports of the products in the first nine months of this year to US$5.91 billion, up 18.1% from the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, leading markets for Vietnamese aquatic products include the US, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea. The four markets consumed 55.5% of total products.

Strong growth was seen in China with 63.3%, the Netherlands with 35.1%, and the UK with 29.5%.

Meanwhile, the country imported US$124 million worth of aquatic products in September and US$1.04 billion in the January-September period, the ministry reported.

Due to poor supply and high demand, both tra fish and shrimp prices in the Mekong Delta region surged sharply domestically.
