Apple considers Vietnam a strategic partner in its global supply chain
VOV.VN - In a letter to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Vietnam as a strategic partner in Apple’s global production supply chain, considering this a great opportunity for cooperation with the Vietnamese Government in the future.
He recalled his meeting with the Vietnamese PM in Hanoi in April 2024 and said following the PM’s suggestion, many Apple delegations have visited the National Innovation Centre, and Apple is considering opportunities to support the Government’s efforts to improve the capacity of Vietnamese engineers and modernize education.
The CEO appreciated the Government’s reform efforts, creating favorable conditions for Apple to develop in Vietnam. He especially welcomed the Government’s recent approval of regulations on the direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) that enables Apple’s suppliers to purchase renewable energy effectively, contributing to realizing the firm’s carbon neutrality commitment by 2030.
In particular, Apple CEO expressed his appreciation for the PM’s proposal to establish a Government working group to support Apple in expanding its market and supply chain, and said Apple would continue to coordinate with relevant agencies to implement this initiative.
During his meeting CEO Tim Cook in mid-April, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly valued Apple’s expansion plan in Vietnam, creating more than 200,000 jobs for local workers.
To concretize the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Chinh asked Apple to consider Vietnam as a base in its global supply and production chain, while diversifying the market. He said Vietnam is ready to coordinate with Apple to establish a working group aimed at supporting Apple to invest and expand operations in the country.
The Government leader expected that Apple would increase support and advice for Vietnam to improve the legal system, develop science-technology and innovation, and promote cooperation and linkages between innovation centres and software parks in Vietnam, especially the National Innovation Centre.
The PM also asked Apple to support Vietnam in human resource training, especially in a programme to train 100,000 high-quality engineers, including 50,000 engineers for the semiconductor industry.
