An Giang unveils new master plan, attracts US$60 bln in investment commitments
VOV.VN - The Mekong Delta province of An Giang on May 17 announced its updated provincial master plan and investment promotion strategy, aiming to unlock new growth momentum and position itself as a major economic hub in Southern Vietnam.
The conference introduced adjustments to An Giang’s 2021–2030 provincial planning with a vision toward 2050, while also presenting key development orientations and a list of priority projects seeking investment in the coming years.
The event was attended by Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, alongside leaders from central ministries, local authorities and more than 500 domestic and international businesses and investors.
Major investment wave follows new development strategy
A major highlight of the conference was the approval and investment commitment for 29 large-scale projects with a combined registered capital exceeding VND161 trillion since July 2025.
Among them were 10 projects previously approved to serve the APEC 2027 Summit week and 19 additional projects granted investment decisions directly at the conference, totaling nearly VND67 trillion.
The projects mainly focus on strategic sectors prioritised by the province, including transportation infrastructure, industrial zones, coastal urban development, high-end tourism, trade and services, processing industries, high-tech agriculture and renewable energy.
Local authorities believe these projects will help maximise the province’s economic potential while creating strong spillover effects for regional growth.
Sun Group expands tourism and infrastructure ambitions in Phu Quoc
In addition to the approved projects, An Giang also signed comprehensive strategic cooperation agreements with four major partners and handed investment research memorandums to 24 strategic investors with initial registered capital totaling nearly VND1.5 quadrillion.
Among the investors, Sun Group attracted particular attention after signing memorandums for more than 10 large-scale infrastructure and tourism projects in Phu Quoc with a total estimated investment of nearly VND100 trillion.
The proposed projects include coastal roads, ports, airports and luxury tourism infrastructure. One notable proposal is the eastern coastal road of Phu Quoc Island, along with a 10-lane East-West boulevard and a modern tramway network connecting key areas across the island.
Sun Group was also granted approval for the Hon Thom Cable Car Line No.2 project, worth over VND4.3 trillion, as part of efforts to transform Phu Quoc into an international tourism, trade and financial centre.
In the maritime and logistics sector, the company is studying plans for An Thoi International Port and an integrated port-service urban area. Thanks to its deep-water advantages, the area is set to become a destination for international superyachts and a future marine trade and tourism hub.
APEC 2027 expected to drive long-term growth
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Mung pledged that local authorities would provide practical and transparent support for businesses and investors.
According to him, the province will continue improving administrative procedures, land clearance processes, workforce development and investment transparency in order to create the most favourable business environment possible.
“We will shift from a management mindset to a service-oriented and development-oriented administration, placing businesses and citizens at the centre,” Mung emphasised.
To reinforce this commitment, An Giang also announced the establishment of the Provincial Investment Support Board, involving provincial leaders and related departments to help resolve obstacles and accelerate project implementation.
Addressing the conference, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc stressed that announcing a new master plan was only the beginning.
He called on the province to quickly turn planning visions into practical action programmes with effective implementation mechanisms and stronger administrative reforms.
“Projects must not remain delayed because of prolonged procedures or ineffective implementation,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
According to the Deputy PM, An Giang should continue coordinating closely with central ministries to effectively implement the new master plan while integrating urban development, green infrastructure and sustainable tourism into preparations for APEC 2027.
With the theme “An Giang: New Space – New Vision – New Success,” the conference is viewed as an important milestone for the newly expanded An Giang Province following its merger with Kien Giang.
The province is expected to gain greater development potential in marine economy, tourism, logistics and strategic infrastructure, while large-scale investment flows could help An Giang emerge as a new growth engine in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region.
