Agro-forestry-fishery exports surge over 13% over 10-month period

VOV.VN - Vietnamese agro-forestry and fisheries exports during the past 10 months of the year soared by 13.1% to nearly US$38.75 billion compared to the same period from last year, according to figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The statistics compiled by the MARD indicated that total import and export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products during the reviewed period stood at an estimated US$74.3 billion, up 24.2% compared to last year’s corresponding period.

The agro-forestry-fishery sector also enjoyed a trade surplus of roughly US$3.19 billion, thereby representing an annual fall of 63.2%.

October alone saw the sector’s export turnover hit approximately US$3.4 billion, marking a decline of 15.6% compared to October, 2020, although it has risen by 4.2% from the previous month.

Strong export growth was also recorded in products such as coffee, rubber, rice, fruit and vegetables, pepper, cashew nuts, cassava products, livestock products, shrimp, wooden products, rattan, bamboo, sedge carpet, and cinnamon.

With regard to export markets, the 10-month export value of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery products to markets throughout Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Oceania accounted for 42.8%, 30%, 11.4%, 1.9%, and 1.5%, respectively.

The US therefore remains the largest Vietnamese export market with over US$10.8 billion, making up 27.9% of the overall market share, followed by China with nearly US$7.5 billion, and Japan with over US$2.6 billion.

The MARD has also moved to ramp up bilateral co-operation activities with countries such as Russia, Switzerland, Cuba, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, and the US in order to develop greater export markets in the near future.

Furthermore, the Ministry will continue to promptly provide local businesses with relevant information on market, import, and export regulations between the nation and China, as well as quotas for agricultural products in compliance with the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA).
