Agro-forestry-fishery exports on track to hit record high in 2025

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery exports are on course for a record-breaking year, with September 2025 exports estimated at US$6.35 billion, up 11.8% year on year, according to the Ministry of Agricultural and Environment.

The September figure brings the total for the first nine months to US$52.31 billion, a 14% increase from the same period in 2024. Notably, the sector’s trade surplus has also widened significantly, reaching approximately US$15.93 billion, up 17.6% from a year earlier.

All major product categories posted robust growth, with agricultural products fetching US$28.51 billion (up 16.8%); aquatic products US$8.12 billion (up 12.3%); and forestry products US$13.41 billion (up 7.4%).

The United States, China, and Japan remain Vietnam’s top three export markets, accounting for 20.6%, 20.0%, and 7.1% of the share, respectively. Exports to Japan surged 23.9%, while shipments to the US and China grew by 9% and 5.9%, respectively.

Despite ongoing global uncertainties, these results provide a strong foundation for the agricultural sector not only to meet but likely exceed its 2025 export target, reinforcing Vietnam’s international agricultural trade position, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien.

However, 2025 has also brought significant challenges. The country was hit by three major storms, including Typhoon Ragasa—the most destructive—causing estimated losses of VND14.541 trillion (around US$600 million) and 57 fatalities or missing persons. The storm's economic toll is equivalent to approximately 0.3% of GDP. The government responded promptly with emergency measures and recovery plans.

In this context, the Vietnamese government responded swiftly with decisive policies and flexible leadership, helping the economy maintain positive momentum. Thanks to thorough preparedness and coordination across ministries and localities, the agricultural sector has shown strong performance in the first three quarters of 2025.

Thanks to proactive coordination among ministries and local authorities, the agricultural sector has maintained resilience and continued growth. If current trends hold, total exports could reach US$67–70 billion by year-end, setting a new all-time high.

These achievements, according to Deputy Minister Tien, reflect effective governance, timely policy execution, and close collaboration across all levels. They also lay the groundwork for longer-term development strategies and set the tone for the upcoming Vietnam Agriculture and Environment Day, to be observed on November 14.
