(VOV) - Exports of Vietnam agro-forestry and aquatic products during the first two months of the year dropped by 1.9% compared to the same period last year for a total of US$4.177 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
MARD reported the country exported 526,000 tonnes of rice valued at US$243 million in the January-February period, representing a decrease of 33.1% in volume and 34.0% in value.
The drop in rice exports was not completely unexpected as export prices have been declining due to increasing supplies from the on-going harvest in exporting countries and declining export demand.
Coffee exports were also down sharply by 25% in volume and 16.4% in value at US$511 million, while rubber exports climbed 30.5% in volume but declined 6.3% in value tallying in at 137,000 tonnes for a total of US$202 million.
