(VOV) - Delegates unanimously voted to adopt the working regulations, working agenda, and election regulations at the 12th National Party Congress taking place in Hanoi from January 20-28.

Up to 1,510 delegates to the 12th National Party Congress met in a preparatory session at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on the morning of January 20.

Since its establishment, the Communist Party of Vietnam has held 11 Congresses. Each Congress is considered an important historical milestone in recognising the Vietnamese revolution’s victories, achievements and lessons. 

The third National Party Congress focuses on building socialism in the north and struggle for liberation in the South.

Preparations for the 12th National Party Congress at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the National Convention Centre were fully examined on January 17. 

The National Assembly Standing Committee has declared Sunday May 22 as election day for deputies to the NA (14th tenure), and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure.

(VOV) - The 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened for its 44th session in Hanoi on January 14 focusing on preparations for the elections of deputies for the 14th NA and the People's Councils at all levels in the 2016-2021 tenure.

The Prime Minister has issued a directive on elections for deputies to the National Assembly and the People’s Council in the 2016-2021 tenure, urging relevant ministries and agencies to well prepare for the country’s major event.

The 11th Party Central Committee wrapped up its 14th meeting in Hanoi on January 13.

Party Central Committee members continued discussing Politburo reports on personnel preparations for the next tenure during their ongoing 14th meeting on January 12.

The 14th meeting of the 11th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on January 11, scheduled to discuss the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and finalise personnel preparations for the next tenure.

A grand ceremony was held in Hanoi on January 6 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first general election of the Vietnamese National Assembly. 

The successful first general election on January 6, 1946 went down in history of Vietnam’s revolution as a turning point, featuring the country as an independent state and a people’s democratic state – the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and Africa, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

(VOV) - On the morning of January 6, 1946, Vietnamese people across the country, for the first time in their life, dressed up and went to polling stations to vote for people’s representatives and exercise their right to democracy.

Preparations for the 12th National Party Congress have been basically completed to date, said Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh.

National Assembly deputies from previous terms have left a tremendous example for future tenures to follow, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said at a meeting with more than 100 former NA deputies in Hanoi on January 5. 

Southerners who experienced the first general election in Vietnam seven decades ago still have vivid memories of the historic event, which took place amid the enemy’s fierce sabotage in the south. 

The Political Bureau has requested Party Committees and organisations to make thorough preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure.
