In a speech after the swearing-in ceremony, the newly-elected President thanked the National Assembly for electing him as State leader and extending best wishes to him.

With the honor, the great responsibility of the Head of State, the Chairman of the National Defence and Security Council, and the leader of the Armed Forces the President, Quang vowed to do his best to serve the country and the people.

"To inherit and uphold the national tradition of safeguarding the nation and experience of predecessor Presidents, I pledged my best efforts to reinforce national unity, protect sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country for national interests and security, continue to boost the Doi Moi (Renewal) and international integration process to promote Vietnam’s international profile,and contribute to peace, national independence, democracy and social progresses in the world.” he said.

Quang also expressed sincere thanks to former State President Truong Tan Sang and his predecessors who have made great contributions to national construction and development and wholeheartedly served the country and the people.

NA deputies said they believe President Quang will successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, NA, and the people.

Tran Ngoc Vinh, a deputy for Hai Phong City said, “We believe in the new President because he has experienced many challenges, especially when he worked in the public security sector. The Ministry of Public Security and Minister Tran Dai Quang managed to maintain law and order. With his experience, I am confident of his efforts to fulfill his tasks”.

Born in 1956, Mr Quang was a deputy in the 13th National Assembly and holds a law professorship.

He was Director of the Security Consultation Department, Deputy Director and Director of the Security Department, Deputy Minister of Public Security, member of the 10th, 11th, and 12th Party Central Committee, member of the politburo of the 11th Party Central Committee, and Minister of Public Security.
